Outreach Department

The Outreach Department serves library patrons and delivers materials to senior facilities, to individuals needing home delivery service, to The Library Box, and to Library Express locations. The Portage County District Library service area includes the communities in all Portage County school districts except Kent and Ravenna. 

Home delivery service is available to individuals who are unable to visit a branch library on their own. Home delivery service may be a temporary or permanent arrangement. Library patrons who need home delivery must have a library card and complete the home delivery service application, available for print down below. Applications are available by calling the department at 1-800-500-5179 ext. 220, through any PCDL branch library, or may be printed from website.

Licensed senior facilities are welcome to apply for an institution library card. Deposit collections are delivered to your facility, incorporating a variety of materials and formats to match your needs and interests.

Library Express

Library Express delivery locations are located within nine communities around the county. These locker units allow 24/7 access to requested library materials for patrons who cannot visit a library due to distance from a branch or those whose schedules conflict with library hours of operation. This project was funded, in part, with an Institute of Museum and Library Services LSTA grant.

Library Express locations include:

Aurora Express, 115 East Pioneer Trail, behind the Aurora Memorial Library
Brimfield Express, State Route 43 in Brimfield Plaza, next to Subway
Deerfield Express, 1450 State Route 14, next to Deerfield Township Hall
Edinburg Express, 6856 Tallmadge Road, next to the Township Garage
Hiram Express, Located on Hayden Street, near the Post Office
Mantua Express, 11661 State Route 44, in front of the Cortland Bank
Randolph Express, 1639 State Route 44, adjacent to the Randolph Library
Rootstown Express, 4190 State Route 44, at the Rootstown Middle School
Shalersville Express, 9018 State Route 44, across the parking of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church

The Library Box

The Library Box is a lending machine located at the Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) in Rootstown. Want a DVD or book, but can’t make it to one of our branch libraries? That’s okay, get a movie or book to go using The Library Box, a lending machine located at the NEOMED Education & Wellness Center, 4209 State Route 44, Rootstown, OH 44272.

Access to The Library Box is available during NEOMED's Education & Wellness Center’s business hours*, which are:
Monday - Thursday: 5:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Friday: 5:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Saturday: 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Sunday: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

*Facility closed on the following holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, and
Independence Day.

A Portage County District Library card is all that's needed to check out items.  The Library Box materials have standard loan periods of 2 weeks for books and DVDs. A book return is conveniently located next to the lending machine.

Directions for using The Library Box...

1. Scan your Portage County library barcode number.
2. Enter the item’s slot number.
3. Your selected item will be dispensed.
4. Retrieve your printed receipt (with due date) from the slot located below barcode reader.
5. Repeat for each selection.

You may return your library item to the book return conveniently located next to the lending machine or at any Portage County library location.

For any questions about The Library Box, call Outreach Services at 1-800-500-5179 ext. 220. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Library materials are picked up from the book return and restocked Monday through Friday.
