Summer Reading Club 2019...

This year's summer reading club will be held the week of June 3 through July 19 (at most branch libraries). Most programs are intended for children who have completed grades K-4.

PRESCHOOLERS-

"A Universe of Stories" is the theme for this six-week program on Wednesdays from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, which will feature stories about outer space, space-related songs, games, and fingerplays. Final meeting will feature a "Books R Fun" show by Katie Bee Entertainment. Call 330-562-6502 to register or for more information.

 

KIDS-

Weekly programs for children who have finished kindergarten through 5th grade. Children set a daily reading goal, keep their own reading log, and have a chance at winning prizes weekly.

Tuesdays from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm. Scheduled events include:
June 4- An "Outer Space Magic Show" presented by Jim Kleefeld
June 11- NASA's General David Stringer speaking about NASA's next mission to the moon when the 1st female astronaut will walk on the moon's surface
June 18- Outback Ray and his collection of exotic animals
June 25- Mad Science of Northeast Ohio presenting "Destination: Moon" show
July 2- An "Out of this World" carnival with games, prizes, balloons, and refreshments
July 9- Award-winning magician David Anthony will share his signature illusions

 

TEENS-

Teen Read! Weekly Prize Drawing
Teens and tweens who read books can enter a weekly prize drawing for Target gift cards and BOGO coupons for Chipotle restaurants on Saturdays from June 8 to July 13 during library service hours. Read a book and rate it to enter. Entry forms are available in the Young Adult area of the library. Program intended for teens 12-18 years-old.

Star Wars Trivia Contest for Teens & Tweens
Teens and tweens are invited to test their Star Wars knowledge at this program on Tuesday, June 18 from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. Participants will work in teams to compete for prizes. Pizza and lemonade will be served.

Teen Author Visit
Teens are invited to hear Hope Bolinger, a young novelist and literary agent, discuss her latest book, Blaze on Saturday, June 15 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Bolinger will share insights on becoming a better writer and discuss what it takes to get published. This event is being sponsored by Aurora Memorial Library's Teen Writers' Circle.

 

ADULTS-

 Adult Summer Reading Challenge. Read 10 books between June 1 and August 31 to be entered into drawing to win a $50 Target gift card.

Ocean Memento- Precious Resource. During the entire month of July, you're invited to reflect upon the depth of the Earth's most valued resource- the ocean. Stop by the library to pick up a poem and a sea shell as a reminder of just how important our waters are to our planet.

PRESCHOOLERS-

Children are invited to take part in stories, songs, and rhymes in order to support the development of literacy skills. It's a great opportunity for children to interact with other children and adults while fostering a love of reading and showcasing great books for little listeners. Mondays from 11:00 am to 11:45 am or Tuesdays 11:30 am to 12:15 pm.

ADULTS-

 Adult Summer Reading Challenge. Using the reading journal provided after registration, participants will record the books or audiobooks that they have read between June 10 and July 22. When they have read at least eight books and their reading journal has been completed, they will be entered into a drawing to win a $25 gift card.

Library Express service users will be given a word scramble to complete, inserted with their deliveries. The first person to return a word scramble with the most correctly unscrambled words between June 10 and July 22 will win a first-place prize, followed by a second-place and third-place prize. Completed word scrambles should be returned in a Library Express book return.

Home Delivery service users will complete an entry slip for each library item they read, watch, or listen to between June 10 and July 22. The person with the most returned slips will receive a prize.

Children infants to preschoolers are invited to attend summer storytime, which will feature music, stories, and crafts.

 

KIDS-

Children who have completed grades K-4. We will be offering a variety of programs, giveaways, and contests all summer so pick up a list of events and drop in as often as possible. Weekly programs will be held on Tuesdays at 1:00 beginning June 4.

A summer program with craft and science elements- including bath bombs and Alka-Seltzer rockets. Runs from June 6 to June 27. Program intended for children 12 years old and older.

 

Summer Reading Club
A summer reading club designed to keep children reading over the summer. Using the space-related theme, kids will spend time on subjects such as the solar system, astronauts, and aliens. End party will take place on Tuesday, July 2.

 

Adult Summer Reading
Each time you read a book or listen to an audiobook, you may enter your name into a drawing to win a fabulous summer prize basket. Runs from June 10 through July 22. This program is free and open to all adults.
